5 Ways to Improve Self-Love Through Photography

Hey Queens! Self-love is a topic I love to talk about and teach. Today, I am going to share how photography can help you learn to love yourself more. I know many of you are probably wondering how photography is possibly going to help your self-esteem, especially if you are a person who hates being photographed. But I am here to teach you 5 Ways to improve Self-Love Through Photography.

Self-Portrait Sessions

One of the easiest ways to get comfortable in front of the camera (or phone camera) is to begin taking self-portraits. There is something very freeing about being able to control the entire photo shoot process. You can come up with a concept, set up your camera, turn on some music, and start experimenting with poses, lighting and angles. No one ever has to see the photos you don’t like, and you can learn what poses and angles you like best. As you look through your photos I know you will be amazed by how beautiful you really are.

Focus on Positivity

Have you ever noticed the happiest people find joy in the smallest thing? In a world where negativity is constantly pushed on us, anything that brings you joy should be cherished. Photography is a great way to capture the things that make you happy. Take pictures of sunsets, rainbows, animals, and fun moments with friends. Make these images your screen saver on your phone, or your computer, and print some out to decorate your space.

Document Self-Care Rituals

True self-love is not just a fad or a cute word, it is a practice. Self-love practices like spiritual baths, your beauty routine, crafting a beautiful meal, and cuddling up with a book can all be photographed to document your dedication to showing yourself love. You can also share these moments to encourage other women to also take time for themselves.

Create a Gratitude Album

We have all heard of gratitude journals, but have you ever heard of a gratitude album? If you’re a visual person like me it helps to have a photo of memories. When I look at a photo I can remember exactly how I felt in the moment it was taken. This makes photos much more powerful than simply writing down things for which I am grateful. Each day try to find one thing you are thankful for and take a picture to remember. At the end of the year, you can look back and see just how many things make you thankful.

Explore Self-Expression

Allow photography to be your ultimate form of self-expression. Play around with different styles, themes, and concepts that resonate with your soul. Let your creativity run wild and capture raw emotions, surreal landscapes, or quirky self-portraits. Don’t limit yourself to the ideas you have seen work for others, instead create something that is uniquely you. The more you tap into your authenticity the more love you will find for yourself.

Remember your camera is a tool to capture not only the beauty around you but the beauty within you. After implementing these five tips, you will gain a whole new love for the camera, instead of that immediate dread so many people feel right now.
