Duality & Finding Balance
Duality & Finding Balance
Everything in life requires balance. Duality is the concept of two opposing forces always pushing against one another. This comes in many forms, light vs dark, masculine vs feminine, mind vs. matter, money vs impact, freedom vs. work.
Finding a balance between these opposing forces is what allows us to have the healthiest, most balanced life. Yet, a good percentage of the advice you will hear is incredibly one sided. Today I am going to talk about some different topics surrounding duality. After the episode I would love to hear your opinion, so tag me in your stories, DM me, or join me in my Facebook group so we can keep the conversation going.
1. Light vs. Dark
There is sooo much toxic love and light bs everywhere. I’m going to explain why I think it is bs – I fully embrace love and light to a point. And I understand the desire for us to exist in a happy positive space. However, darkness exists, without darkness we could not appreciate or understand light. We cannot simply wish darkness away from society or from ourselves, pretending that there are only positive experiences and energies in the world does nothing but amplify the shame associated with all things that don’t fit into this perfect fake image.
I also want to explain something light and dark are not good and bad or good and evil. Light is what comes from the Universe (spirit, God, whatever you want to call it) and darkness is what comes from the flesh (human desires). If we lived in a world in which we had no desires then maybe you could be only light and be ok, but that is not the case. We are human and we desire things like money and success and even if we don’t other people do.
If you go too far to either side, there are problems. Too much light you end up whiney, needy, and basically a victim. Too much darkness you end up angry, super aggressive, and basically a predator. If you have a balance, then you are a caring compassionate person who doesn’t take any shit from anyone. You must balance your desire to love and help everyone or you will be taken advantage of and you must balance your desire for success with compassion or you will just use people.
2. Masculine vs. Feminine
Masculine energy vs. feminine energy is another area in which people tend to teach either one or the other and again you need to find the right balance. Masculine energy is confident, logical, disciplined, assertive, direct and purposeful, focused, and competitive. It is very action-based energy. Masculine energy comes across as hard.
Feminine energy on the other hand is intuitive, vulnerable, reflective, creative, supportive, trusting, nurturing, empathetic. It is very feeling based energy. Feminine energy comes across as soft.
Once again if you go too far in one direction you will create unhealthy situations. If you are too masculine is can turn from assertive to aggressive, from disciplined too rigid, from confident to cocky. If you are too feminine it can turn from vulnerable to super whiney.
The key is to have a balance of these energies. You want to embody the healthy characteristics of both. Side note – your energy being masculine or feminine doesn’t relate to whether you are a male or female or non-binary. My energy definitely tends to be more masculine even though I am highly intuitive. When I am in need of feminine energy and I can’t channel it on my own I go to one of my friends and ask them how they would approach the situation because I understand how important it is to approach problems in a balanced manner.
3. Mind vs Body vs Spirit
This is a topic I have addressed in previous episodes. It is so important to remember that you cannot only focus on one part of you. Mindset work, fitness and nutrition, and spiritual work are all important. If one part of you is ignored it with throw off everything. I am a firm believer that neglecting any part of us creates a problem with us overall. We cannot be clear minded if we haven’t moved our bodies at all, our bodies can’t be healthy if our mind is filled with toxic thoughts. The spiritual aspect is always a little harder for me to describe because I do not want anyone to feel like they HAVE to believe in anything. However, a spiritual practice can be as simple as a meditation practice you develop to cut out the noise. Meanwhile, I will be over here talking to the Universe and any Goddess who will listen to my woes and desires.
4. Money vs Impact
This is a category that has been on my mind heavy lately. It seems like marketing is all so one sided. There is the charge your worth, make a minimum of $10,000 a month off your clients, tell them to mortgage their house to pay you camp or you clearly don’t value your skills and somehow the Universe will snatch them from you group. They would like you to believe that charging $80,000 for coaching is the only way to go or people shouldn’t work with you because your services must not be worth it. This isn’t just for coaching either, I am seeing this across many service industries and other online businesses. If that is what people want to pay, then that is their business – my problem doesn’t really lie with the rate choice. My problem lies with the fear mongering marketing and the bashing of others who do not wish to charge these rates. I don’t ever want people to work with me because I scared them into thinking this is the only way they can grow. I want people to choose to work with me from an empowered place. I believe there should always be a balance between the impact I provide and the money I make. Neither is more important than the other. All energy expended should be compensated, that is how we avoid running out of energy. There has to be an exchange. A balance allows you to expend energy and then have that energy be compensated (money is energy). Then you can keep going and helping more people.
5. Work vs Freedom
I know we all want to (and have to) make an income in order to survive, but if we never enjoy our lives then what is the point? I seriously see soo many people that never get a break. These people make a great income, they have a fabulous house, nice cars, all the things. However, they’re always at work and only drive their cars back and forth to work. So, what is the point? On the other hand, you can’t just quit working and rely on other people to take care of you either – I mean we’re not children anymore. So, we have to find a balance.
There are so many categories we could get into, but I think yall get the point. Going to an extreme in any facet of life is a recipe for failure. We have to find a way to balance the energies inside of us, the activities we partake in, and everything else.
