Creating Balance
Hey Queens! Do you live a balanced life? Do you even know what a balanced life means to you?
Living a balanced life looks different for everyone because we all have different needs and desires. What works for me and makes me happy my make you crazy.
So, the first step is figuring out exactly what you need each day/week to feel energized and calm. This will include self-care of your mind, body, spirituality all balanced with work and family obligations.
One of the biggest struggles I have observed in womxn is them constantly putting everyone’s needs above their own. We simply cannot function like this long term. You’ve all heard the phrase you can’t pour from an empty cup, and it is true! No one has an unlimited supply of energy. If our energy is never returned it will eventually run out. So, what can you do about it?
The first thing I am going to tell you is a message I keep receiving from the Universe & I feel like if it applies to me, many of you can relate too. Stop letting day to day tasks pile up by skipping over them. Doing this may make us feel better for a moment, but we set ourselves up for overwhelm every time we say we will do something tomorrow. Instead, if there is something you really don’t want to do – like laundry, just set a timer for 10 minutes and get as much done as you can. Then reward yourself for getting it done. By setting a timer you know you will have an out – you won’t be stuck doing it forever. The combination of a set end time and a reward for getting it done will feel less overwhelming and promote your mind to want to get things done as they arise in the future.
Schedule Time for You
I don’t mean you telling yourself on Monday you will take 20 minutes to yourself sometime during the week. I want it in your calendar and treated as non-negotiable as you would any other meeting.
You must come first if you want to have the capacity to care for others. I know that statement is going to make some of you feel some type of way, but it is necessary. Taking an hour to myself makes me a better mom, friend, and coach. If I am feeling off, then how can I show up and hold space for anyone else? I can’t!
Ok, so you made the time, now what? Basically, do whatever makes you feel good. Here are some ideas:
Mind:
· start a file where you write positive things about yourself.
· meditate or do breathwork.
· create a vision board.
· turn your phone on airplane mode and read a book.
Body:
· Get outside and look at the clouds.
· Dance
· Go for a walk.
· Workout
· Stretch
· Take a hot bath.
Spiritual
· Meditate
· Read something related to your practice.
· Make moon water.
· Play with your crystals.
· Read tarot cards or do other divination.
Making this work looks different for everyone. For me it means getting up earlier than everyone else and staying up after them. In the morning I get up and workout and dance and be silly by myself. At night I stay up and read books not related to my business. On days I am taking a break from working out I might get up and scroll silly videos or whatever I feel like doing.
One of the biggest changes that brought me peace was ignoring my notifications between 9pm and 7 am unless it is an emergency. At first that was really hard for me do to. I always feel like everything needs my immediate attention. So, I would put my phone on airplane mode during those hours. Now I am more disciplined and don’t have to do that anymore. It took a few months to get to that point though.
You have to do whatever it takes for you to get that time to yourself, time to just be you. Not you as a wife, you as a mom, you as a coach or makeup artist or whatever your career is. Time to just be.
Pay Attention to Your Body
Learning to tune into our body makes a world of difference. Pay attention to when you need to rest, when you need to be active, when you need more nutrients, etc. It is definitely a learning process to know what different feelings mean, but once you’re in tune you never lose it. The hardest part then is actually listening to it. Especially as a business owner it can be incredibly hard to take a break. You feel for letting people down, worry about losing out on money, but most of us get into business to have autonomy and we need to remember and embrace that.
Don’t Be Afraid to Speak Up for Yourself
Sometimes the people around us don’t realize we are overwhelmed or tired. Tell them! You are not weak because you are tired, you are human and not a freaking robot. It’s ok to say no when your plate is already full. Disclaimer- if you’ve never said no it is going to be hard for you and the people hearing it at first, don’t back down.
Make Time for Fun
I always advocate for doing the work and take care of yourself but the part that gets left out is the fun part. Everything you do does not have to be for a bigger purpose. I love doing things that make me happy and have no outcome attached. I go kayaking, boating, play my guitar, go shooting, play outside being weird. I watch shows and read books for pure entertainment. Everything in my life can’t be about my business and family and mindset or I will go crazy.
Now I want to hear about what you do to create balance, so DM me and let me know!
