Intro to Astrology
Intro to Astrology
Hey Queens! Welcome back to another episode of Captivation Radio! I hope you all have been having a great week and are adjusting to the changing temps. Here in Wisconsin, we got our first snow fall on Sunday. I was not quite ready, but it was pretty beautiful.
Today, I want to give you an introduction into astrology so you can better understand your chart beyond your sun sign. All of this information will be available on my website Captivation Queens under the blog section. That way you have a reference to go back to and don’t have to try to remember all of it. The information I am sharing in this episode is taken from the book, The Spirit Almanac, by Emma Loewe and Lindsay Kellner. It is a great book for anyone beginning a spiritual journey because it touches on numerous key elements you will need to know as your journey progresses.
History
Let’s start with a brief history of astrology. Astrology is not new at all. It began in ancient Babylonia when diviners began using the stars to predict the future. These diviners believed that the gods put clues about the future in places that humans could find them. This included the stars and everything else in nature.
Then later a Greek philosopher, Pythagoras, helped shape this theory into something more personal, believing that every human contained the universe and that our bodies were vessels through which the cosmos could shine. This idea would be seen through art and literature for centuries to follow.
In the Renaissance era astrology experienced a huge growth in popularity. Textbooks were written about it, and it was taught by professors. Henry VII regularly used astrologers to make his plans and was the leader of the trend of royalty consulting different types of diviners to help them. Diviners were often sought out to give advice regarding conflict and war.
Then came a time when religious communities and some scientists didn’t appreciate the use of astrology. Religions, like Christianity, believed everything was planned by God and if the future was planned by the stars, then where did he fit in?
Then in the 1930s a reporter named RH Naylor, having studied under a shaman and astrologer known as Cheiro, wrote the first real newspaper horoscope. This reading was for a new member of the royal family named Princess Margaret. Readers of this article were so interested in her chart that many newspapers also decided to start publishing horoscopes in their newspapers. Hence, the trend we still have today.
Who is astrology for?
Some people use astrology to predict their futures, to decided certain days to do or not do things, others use it to gain more insight into their personality, and others use it for both. What you decide to use it for is completely up to you. I do not agree that one cannot be both Christian and interested in other spiritual topics. If you are Christian, and believe God created everything in the Universe, then isn’t it fair to believe that he left clues in the stars like ancient people believed? Even if you do not believe the stars can predict your future, I do not believe there is ever any harm in introspection. Learning more about ourselves is always valuable regardless of the catalyst.
What is the Big Three?
If you follow astrology at all, or have friends who are super into it, then I’m sure you have been asked about your big 3. Basically, these three placements are considered to be the ones that have the most impact on your personality. The big 3 are your sun, moon, and rising (or ascendent). Your sun sign represents your identity and external need for validation. You moon sign is your subconscious, your deeply rooted needs and emotions. The sun is your masculine energy, and the moon is your feminine energy. Your rising sign is based on the constellation that was on the horizon when you were born and is symbolizes how others see you and how you are ascending toward your life’s mission.
My Big 3 are Sagittarius sun, which is the sign of the dreamers. Sagittarius believe we can accomplish anything. We are seldom satisfied staying in one place or doing one thing for too long. We are always concerned with the greatest good and speak up on these topics which sometimes leads to hurt feelings. My moon is in Pisces. Pisces is the last sign of the zodiac and is the most psychic, empathetic, and compassionate. My ascending is in Cancer. Cancer energy is emotional and comforting. Cancers are especially good at tuning into other people’s feelings and energy and the energy of the environment around them.
By looking at common themes from your big 3, you can learn what career path would work well for you, what characteristics you need to work on, and where you are naturally strong. For me, analyzing these characteristics, makes it obvious that the healing work that I try to avoid, is part of my purpose. It comes natural to me just as my signs say it should. I would love to hear your big 3 and if you feel like they resonate for you. So, after you listen, screenshot the episode and share it to your story with your big 3. Make sure you tag me @captivationqueen so I see it and can respond. I do personally respond to all DMs that are not spam.
